At C.A.R.E.S., we feel it’s important for you to see our happy endings. It really helps to keep our spirits lifted after seeing so much cruelty and neglect. Many of our rescued canines were at death’s door when they came to us. They are now healthy, happy dogs who have either found loving homes or are in a safe foster care environment.
Welby is a Great Dane that C.A.R.E.S. pulled from a Louisiana high-kill shelter. His owners had decided he wasn’t worthy of food and had been letting him roam their neighborhood. Animal control picked him up and delivered him to the shelter where he didn’t stand a chance. Upon veterinary assessment, it was realized that he had the most severe case of heartworms possible. The vets were amazed he was still alive. After months of vet care and lots of TLC, Welby is now a happy, healthy dog who is currently in foster care and looking for a new family to adopt him.
Charlie is a Shih Tzu who was found wandering the streets in Mandeville, LA. He was mostly blind and deaf, starving, had almost no hair, had huge sores all over his body, and was exposed to temperatures in the teens without shelter. He still has issues with eyesight and hearing, but is overall a normal, happy dog. He is currently in foster care and looking for a new family.
